Directors

The company has eight Directors which sit on the Management Board:

Qualifications: Phil has numerous qualifications relating to the installation of gas central heating, together with a wealth of knowledge gained through decades of hard work and the ability to seek out new areas for the company to progress into.

Experience: Phil has over 45 years experience in the plumbing and central heating industry, beginning in 1963 when he began as a sole trader in the Wrexham - Whitchurch area. Initially Phil began as a central heating installer and several years later he then began to service and maintain the systems he had installed. Through hard work, dedication and being customer focussed, Phil soon began to retain and grow his customers to the point where he had to drastically increase his workforce! Later in the 1990s Phil helped PH Jones Ltd diversify into the social housing market and later into the New Build and Utilities sectors.

Role: As Chairman of PH Jones, Phil assists the Board of Directors to strategically develop the company and manage the focus of the business. Phil is also the Director of Central Heating Installation within the Homeowner division where he is very active preparing quotes, answering customers' queries and generally ensuring our customers are happy.

Brenda Jones, Company Secretary

Photograph of Brenda JonesExperience: Brenda has over 45 years experience at PH Jones, and is passionate about customer care.  She personally telephones customers to check that they are happy with the service they have received and addresses any issues which may arise. 

Role: As Company Secretary, Brenda keeps minutes of directors' meetings and general meetings. She holds the register of directors and secretaries and is responsible for keeping this information up to date, as well as the custody of books, records and documents.  Brenda is responsible for the submission of information to Companies House to comply with legal requirements and ensuring that PH Jones continues to operate in the correct manner. Brenda maintains the certification of membership of professional organisations to which PH Jones is affiliated, and renews these as required.

Martin Jones, Managing Director

Qualifications: BEng; Completed two year apprenticeship in central heating installation at PH Jones. Photograph of Martin Jones

Experience: Following his apprenticeship at PH Jones, Martin worked overseas for a number of years before rejoining PH Jones as Managing Director. Martin has been the Managaing Director for PH Jones for 10 years.

Role: As Managing Director, Martin has overall responsibility for ensuring the company has adequate policies and procedures, especially in relation to health and safety, quality, equalities and human resources.

Martin constantly monitors and reviews corporate and business objectives, as well as developing strategies and innovation, maximising continuous improvement and value management. Martin reviews expenditure, income, net profit and cash flow on a monthly basis alongside the Finance Director.  He works closely with the divisional directors and operations managers, identifying prospective contracts and is also involved with the new business team on bid management.  In addition to this, he assesses company training needs and ensures there is consistent management across the company.

Chris Jones, New Build Director

Photograph of Chris JonesQualifications: Chris has amassed a long list of trade qualifications relating to the installation of plumbing and central heating appliances – whether oil, gas or renewable commodities.

Experience: Chris has been part of PH Jones for 20 years, and became Director of New Build in 1997.  With construction in the UK seeing an upward trend, the installation of gas appliances in new homes is an area needing expert attention, which Chris is able to provide. 

Role: Chris manages the Midlands and North West areas for the New Build Sector, overseeing the financial and operational commitments of  this department. Quality is paramount in his mind to cultivate repeat business and maximise customer care and satisfaction.

He has been involved in pioneering renewable energy installations in this sector for the company along with developers such as Persimmon Homes Plc on their MMC project in Irlam, Manchester and Peel Hall Park Developments in Ashton Cheshire. Chris works closely with the clients providing advice on design and specifications to improve final products and productivity.

Don Hankey, Technical Director

Photograph of Don HankeyQualifications: Don is ACS qualified and has completed the City & Guilds 2360/01 & 02 Electrical Installation and IOSH. In addition he has completed OFTEC, HETAS and NICEIC related qualifications. 

Experience: Don joined PH Jones in 1976 as an apprentice service and breakdown engineer in private maintenance and progressed to be the first contract manager for the company’s first ever social housing contract in 1994 (heating installation partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council). He became Head of Quality Management and Safety in 1998.

Role: In 1998 Don's role developed to reflect his experience and capabilities.  Don took over the maintenance of the CORGI qualifications and training and technical issues, Public Liability Employers Liability and Motor Fleet Insurance, as well as responsibility for purchasing and managing the fleet of company vehicles.  As the Duty Holder for the NICEIC certification, Don is also responsible for assisting auditors when they inspect gas contract arrangements.

Paul Nelson, Homeowner Services (Installation) Director

Photograph of Paul NelsonQualifications: Paul is ACS qualified and has many trade qualifications including Advanced City & Guilds, OFTEC and WRAS. In addition Paul has completed the Electrical Awareness Certificate, Part L Energy Efficiency and is Asbestos Awareness Approved.

Experience: Starting with PH Jones as an apprentice, Paul has now served 22 years service with the company across all divisions.

Role: Paul manages all employees in his division in a hands-on manner and the day-to-day running of private installation and government grant work.  This involves sourcing and supervision of work from enquiry stage through to installation and payment. He is responsible for maintaining, sustaining and increasing performance and quality in the division.

Derek Corbishley, Social Housing Director

Photograph of Derek CorbishleyQualifications: Derek has a Foundation Degree in Construction and is a Member of the Institute for Leadership and Management.

Experience: Derek has over 15 years experience in project and financial management for gas maintenance companies and 3 years experience as Director for PH Jones.

Role: Derek is responsible for measuring the performance of social housing gas servicing and maintenance contracts and developing the division in terms of sales, profitability, innovation, client satisfaction, performance analysis and partnering.  In conjunction with the operations managers / area managers, he ensures optimum use of all depot resources including: manpower, material orders, van and car fleet.  This includes the provision of contract costing and analysis.  He ensures that the IT software, Pilot, is utilised and developed to its optimum level allowing relevant reports.

Derek also reports to the managing director on contracts’ KPI’s and agreeing with the operations managers / area managers on the methodology of continuous improvement against KPI’s.

Simon Hindley, Finance Director

Qualifications: Studied for the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants exams (ACCA) whilst working in Photograph of Simon Hindleyaudit and accountancy. Qualified in 1997 and became a fellow (FCCA) in 2002.

Experience: Joined PH Jones in June 2005 as Financial Controller and became Finance Director in early 2007. Has held senior finance roles in Telecoms, Utilities and Medical research/manufacturing. As well as the core competencies expected in these roles, Simon also has experience in project management, systems selection and implementation, company acquisitions, managing the financial reporting for international subsidiaries and business strategy and planning.        

Role: As Finance Director, Simon ensures that the finance team provides accurate and relevant information to the other directors and mangers to enable them to make sound financial decisions on the divisions and contracts that they run.  Simon is also responsible for pulling together the company’s budget and strategic plan and ensuring that the right finance is available to enable these to be fulfilled.
