Heating maintenance contracts in the North West and North Wales: a brief history
Heating maintenance contracts in the social housing sector have been the core of the company’s growth over the past fifteen years. As the initial growth was based in the North West, North Wales and North Midlands we reflect on the regional growth which ultimately led to national expansion.
The company started as a social housing contractor in the early 1990’s and in 1994 we were successful in winning our first heating maintenance contract for Wrexham County Borough Council. The contract included gas servicing, heating repairs and boiler installation for properties in and around the Wrexham area. .jpg)
The following year the company expanded across North Wales and into Shropshire; areas close to the Head Office in Malpas, near Whitchurch. Contracts included the provision of gas servicing and heating repairs for North Shropshire District Council, Owestry Borough Council and Denbighshire County Council.
After the initial growth around Wrexham and Shropshire, we expanded into the North Midlands, opening our first regional office in North Warwickshire in 1996 carrying out the heating maintenance contract for North Warwickshire Borough Council. In 1997 we opened our second regional office in Cannock, carrying out the heating repairs and boiler installation contract for Cannock Chase District Council, for whom we are still working with today.
In 2000 we opened the Wrexham office which today looks after the boiler servicing and heating repairs for properties across North Wales including Flintshire, Conwy, Clwyd, Mold and Ruthin. Clients include Wales & West Housing Association and Conwy County Borough Council.
In 2001 we began working with Cheshire Consortium providing the boiler servicing and heating repairs contracts for Chester & District Housing Trust and Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council (which later transferred its housing stock to Wulvern Housing) from a local office in Crewe.
Now working out of a shared office in Chester we still work for Chester & District Housing Trust providing the servicing, breakdown repairs and heating replacement contract for properties in and around the Chester area.
In the same year we also began working with Wirral Partnership Homes, the largest Registered Social Landlord (RSL) in Wirral with over 13,000 homes, providing the boiler servicing and heating breakdown repairs contract.
In 2003 we opened the Warrington office following the contract award from Warrington Borough Council (who later transferred its stock to the ALMO, Golden Gates Housing Association in 2004), for the provision of gas safety checks and heating repairs.
More recently in 2006 we opened the substantial Manchester office following the contract wins for Manchester City Council and subsequently Irwell Valley Housing Association and Harvest Housing Group who collectively have properties all over Greater Manchester including central Manchester, Stockport and the surrounding areas.
To summarise, in 1991 the company had just one office in Malpas, Cheshire and following local consolidation and expansion, in just 15 years the growth has included a further 27 offices and over 800 staff, which is testament to the dedication of all our staff, past and present.
