Protect yourself from bogus gas engineers and property contractors
Trading Standards receives reports of bogus gas engineers attending social housing properties posing as contractors working for the registered landlord. PH Jones, specialist social housing property and gas maintenance contractor provides advice to its customers.
The safety and security of our customers is of paramount importance and we make every effort to keep residents and the public safe from danger whilst we work within properties.
Whilst we generally think of hazards and health and safety in these operations, reports of a different kind of danger have emerged.
Recently we have heard cases of bogus callers preying on vulnerable people, posing as gas engineers. We urge you to be vigilant and aware of potential bogus visitors.

It’s very important that you check the identification cards of the Gas Engineer before letting them into your home. If you’re worried about any identity cards that you’re shown, shut the door and contact your local housing office or Tenant Liaison Officer immediately. Here are a few points to reassure you that our engineers are genuine:
All PH Jones engineers use white vans, which show our logo, and sometimes that of the local housing association / county council.
All of our engineers wear uniforms, which feature our logo and sometimes that of the local housing association / county council.
All of our engineers introduce themselves, and show you their ID FIRST. Their badges show a photograph and their name, together with the CORGI logo. They will also explain what they have come to your home for.
You will have also received notification of the date that you can expect one of our gas engineers to work in your home, so an unscheduled visit is highly unlikely.
We write to you to let you know the date we intend to undertake the annual gas service – generally two weeks notice. We can also provide appointment reminders and notify you when a gas engineer is on their way to your property. Please contact your local PH Jones office to arrange.

If you have any doubt as to the identity of a caller to your home, shut the door and check with your local housing office or PH Jones office – a genuine employee will be happy to wait a few minutes for you to receive reassurance. If you notice anything suspicious in your street, take note of the vehicle registration, and report it: you could save your neighbours from deception.
