Solar Heating

Are you interested in saving up to 50% of your hot water costs?

Then Solar Heating is for you

How does Solar Heating work?

Solar panels are fitted to the buildings roof. They use the sun’s heat to warm water, which passes through the panel. This water is then fed to a heat store, such as a hot water tank, and helps provide hot water or central heating through the building.

What are the benefits of Solar Heating?

Solar Heating has considerable environmental benefits and reduces the carbon dioxide emissions caused by burning fossil fuels. It’s a really good way to make your home more environmentally friendly and can also save you money.

Can I rely solely on Solar Heating Panels?

Solar water heating panels should provide most of the hot water needs of an average household for the sunniest four or five months of the year. The rest of the time they will contribute to the heating required. Over a whole year, about half of your hot water will have been heated by the sun.

What are the requirements in order to get Solar Panels to be installed?

Solar heating on a normal domestic scale in the UK will provide around 50% of the average annual household’s hot water requirements. Although the system may provide most of the hot water required in summer, the winter results, due to the lower intensity of the sun and the shorter daylight hours, will be reduced.  As such, the householder will need a boiler to make up the difference in domestic hot water requirement and for the central heating of the house.

Do I need to have a particular type of roof for Solar Heating Installation?

In the UK the best orientation for solar panels is facing due south and tilted at around 35 degrees from the horizontal. The gains available will reduce as the orientation moves away from due south. A variety of brackets and frames are available for solar systems to suit different types of roof (pitched and flat) and different types of roof tiles.

Although ongoing expansion plans are in place, the renewable energies team currently operates within a local area comprising Cheshire, Manchester, Liverpool, Shropshire and North Wales.  Whilst we welcome enquiries from other parts of the country, because we are happy to assist in the provision of information for renewable energy, we are unable to offer a service of delivery on a nationwide basis at this stage.
