The Smart Metering Revolution

Smart meters are innovative digital devices that provide remote meter readings, automatically forwarding electricity and gas consumption information in real time directly to energy suppliers, who will use the information to only bill consumers for actual energy used. Smart meters are also believed to improve consumer education, awareness, and accountability for energy efficient improvements, measures which are not only expected to reduce carbon emissions, but also potentially save consumers up to £3.6 billion over the next 20 years.

In 2009, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) revealed proposals for a national smart metering implementation plan, which aims to oversee the installation of smart meters in every UK home by 2020. The rollout of smart meters is scheduled to begin in 2012, with the plans affecting around 26 million homes and several million businesses. Being currently involved in several UK smart metering installation trials, PH Jones has gained valuable insight and preparation for a national rollout, as well having demonstrated technical competency and unrivalled results.
